About Chevrolet

For almost 100 years Chevrolet has been a part of America's history. Founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant Chevrolet has continued to have a huge influence on the automobile industry ever since. Chevrolet became a brand under General Motors in 1917 and was set up to sell mainstream vehicles that could compete with Ford's Model T. Chevrolet's first mainstream vehicle was the Model D, a V8-powered model in four-passenger roadster and five-passenger tourer models. In 1963 10% of every car sold was a Chevrolet. Since then Chevrolet has continued to be General Motor's highest selling brand and the name "Chevrolet" or "Chevy" is synonymous with GM.

Currently Chevrolet operates in all of North America, the Middle East, and all major Asian countries, Australia, South Africa, Europe and South America. In 2008 General Motors sold over 2.9 million vehicles and had 22% of the market; a majority of these sales were Chevrolet cars. After restructuring in 2009 GM sold almost 2 million units and had sales of more than $20 billion.

New for 2012 will be the Chevrolet Sonic. The Sonic will be available in either a sedan or hatchback style and is brought in by Chevrolet to replace the Aveo. This model will be available with a 1.4-Liter or 1.8-Liter engine with five-speed or six-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic transmission depending on the engine option chosen. Production has begun and the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic will be available in fall 2011.
