Set to appear at the Detroit Auto Show Smart’s newest concept is the smallest pickup truck/coupe crossover model out there. The For-us is built on the ForTwo convertible platform but at 97.6 inches long the wheelbase is a full two feet longer than the standard ForTwo. The For-us model is also 6.3 inches taller than the standard model.
The added length to the For-us benefits the cargo space more than the passenger area as the For-us still only seats two. The tailgate can be electrically lowered and extended providing up to 35.4 inches of load floor. Though this bed size doesn’t compare to a standard pickups 6-foot bed the people at Smart think it’s plenty of space for hauling small odds and ends, including a bicycle. In fact, the For-us vehicle at the Detroit Auto Show integrates docks/charging ports for a pair of electric bikes.
The For-us is powered by a 55-kW electric motor that spins the rear wheels and is powered by a 17.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Smart predicts a top speed of 75 mph but has yet to provide an estimated range for the electric motor.
Look out for the For-us debut next month in Detroit.
