The LA Auto Show began in 1907 as place for those in the auto industry to show off their newest and greatest concepts of the time. The first auto show had 99 vehicles; this year the show expects to have 1,000 makes and models of import and domestic cars. Several of these will be World and North American debuts, as well as alternative fuel/electric vehicles and race cars.
We’ve put together a list of some of the more anticipated concept and production vehicles that will be appearing at the show.
Ford Focus ST Concept: The all-new Ford Focus ST is a high-performance model to be introduced to driving enthusiasts around the world in 2012. “ST represents an ultimate expression of Focus driving quality and performance,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development.
Mazda CX-5 Crossover: The Mazda CX-5 is Mazda’s first production vehicle to incorporate Mazda’s new design theme, ‘KODO-Soul of Motion,’ as well as the full range of SKYACTIV technologies including engines, transmissions, body and chassis. This vehicle will be the compact crossover model in the Mazda series.
Audi R8 GT: The 2012 Audi R8 GT builds on the award-winning R8 Coupe and Spyder and represents the ultimate in performance from the Audi model line. R8 GT performance was greatly enhanced through the use of carbon fiber and aerodynamic improvements. This is the first limited production sports car produced by Audi and only 333 units will be built worldwide with 90 units destined for the U.S.
Dodge Challenger SRT8: The Chrysler Group’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team announced an exclusive production run of special-edition 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Yellow Jacket models featuring Stinger Yellow exterior paint and interior appointments. “The Challenger SRT8 392 Yellow Jacket adds another piece of performance car nostalgia to our rear-drive muscle coupe lineup in 2012,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – SRT Brand and Motorsports. “The Stinger Yellow paint and interior accents speak directly to the performance enthusiast who appreciates a memorable and collectible color that helps deliver even more excitement and exclusivity.”
Infiniti IPL G Convertible: The 2013 IPL G Convertible, the second entry in the Infiniti Performance Line focuses on more than just engine power and acceleration. The Infiniti Performance Line or IPL product design philosophy focuses on “total vehicle performance,” including unique driving attributes and exclusive exterior and interior features at highly attractive price points. The new IPL G Convertible is based on the foundation of the G37 Convertible and features an advanced 3.7-liter V6 engine. “Like every Infiniti, the new IPL G Convertible will take a different path from its established competitors,” said Ben Poore, Vice President, Infiniti Americas.
