Ludwig van Beethoven and the Audi R8
Carlocate.com: We have a special treat for classical music lovers today as Ludwig van Beethoven has agreed to speak with us. Ludwig being a man more known for his music than any other interest I’m sure we’re all curious as to what your ideal car would be?
Ludwig van Beethoven: WHAT?
Carlocate.com: Oh that’s right you’re deaf so we’ll do the rest of this via instant messaging. (the following is a text based IM conversation)
CL: So Ludwig what would your ideal car be?
LvB: I need a quality car, a German car, one that has the best sound system of any car available and the Audi R8 provides that.
CL: Yes, the Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System in the R8 is quite good.
LvB: Quite good? My dear sir have you listened to my 9th Symphony on it? It is positively beautiful with its flowing melodies and perfect pitch. The 14 speakers give great sound along with the 12’ subwoofer with its own amplifier. The acoustic lens speakers atop the dash extend and retract, which is a great feature as well. Also with 1,100 Watts of power I can put my head to the dashboard and hear the vibrations of the music and it’s beautiful.
CL: You…put your head to the dashboard? Is that safe?
LvB: No, but I’ve had suicidal tendencies for awhile…this might be part of that.
CL: …Okay, well what else did you like about the car and what didn’t you like?
LvB: I liked the power that the 5.2L DOHC V10 produces, I’ve always been a bit of a rebel and speeding is fun. I like to hit that top speed of 196mph while listening to my Second Symphony. What I don’t like is the space. I barely have enough room for my violin and other instruments I’m trying to pack in. It could have done with a bit more space but other than that this car is great.
CL: Excellent, well is there anything else you’d like to add before you go Ludwig?
LvB: Yes, I heard you had Napoleon on here and I just wanted to tell that backstabbing…
-LvB has been kicked from the chat room-
CL: Okay, enough of that. Well thanks for reading this week’s Past Figures, Present Rides and come back next week for more.
Background Information:
Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer who lived during the period of 1770-1827. One of the most famous composers of all time, Beethoven was also acknowledged in his time as one of the best pianists. He composed nine symphonies, with perhaps his Third and Ninth Symphonies being his most famous. The Third being famous as, Beethoven being an advocate of the ideals of the Enlightenment, was a huge fan of France’s democratic government with Napoleon as first Consul of France and he dedicated the symphony to him calling the Symphony Intitulata Bonaparte (dedicated to Bonaparte). After finding out that Napoleon had taken over and become Emperor of France Beethoven, enraged, tore up the title page and renamed the Symphony “Sinfonia Eroica composta per festeggiare il sovvenire di un grand Uomo” (Heroic Symphony, composed to celebrate the memory of a great man). Beethoven’s Ninth is also famous as he composed this Symphony while he was going deaf. Legend has it while conducting the Ninth Symphony Beethoven began to cry as he didn’t hear any applause for his work and had to be turned around to see the crowd cheering. Beethoven going deaf lead to a series of depression issues where he became suicidal and he was plagued by this depression until his death in 1827 which was attributed by modern doctors, who exhumed the body, to be lead poisoning.
