As we approach that time of year where the world turns white and the roads turn icy it’s time to start preparing your car for those long winter days ahead.
Mopar®, the service, parts, and consumer-care brand for Chrysler Group has put together a list of the top 10 things to include in your “Fall Car-Care Checklist.”
1. Brakes – check pads, shoes, rotors, drums, calipers, wheel cylinders, brake hardware, and the parking brake for wear and tear.
2. Tires – closely inspect the tread and sidewall areas for uneven or irregular wear; be sure to check the spare tire as well.
3. Battery – check for corroded terminals and a bulging or cracked case.
4. Wiper Blades – it may be wise to invest in a pair of blades that are resistant to snow- and ice-clogging.
5. Shocks and Struts – fall and winter are pothole season and your shocks and struts will affect ride control and comfort as well as number of other parts.
6. Engine Oil – ensure your engine oil has the right viscosity in order to endure the cold weather.
7. Fluid Levels – all vehicle fluids and lubricants should be checked; key fluids include antifreeze/coolant as well as power steering, brake, transmission, and windshield wiper fluids.
8. Engine Belts and Hoses – check for any cracks or bulges in hoses and replace as needed.
9. Air Filter – a clean air filter will allow clean, unrestricted air flow into the engine and help ensure proper performance.
10. Headlamps and Taillamps – inspect and test all lamps on your vehicle to ensure proper function and proper alignment.
