Best Car to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse Runner-Up: Volvo S60

When I was thinking about which car would be best to outrun a zombie attack, I wanted to choose a car with sentimental significance. Since there aren’t any cars in my favorite “when zombies attack” video game House of the Dead, I’ll have to go with a car from my all-time favorite zombie movie, the 80s cult-classic Night of the Comet.  In that movie, the character DMK has a Mercedes-Benz 380SL – 23 of them, in fact. The modern version of that car would be a Mercedes-Benz SLK350 and it certainly could get you out of harm’s way quickly with its 302-hp engine that produces a rapid acceleration of 0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds. However, despite the speed advantage, a ragtop convertible is probably not the safest or most practical choice to get away from flesh-eating zombies who’d like nothing better than to sample your brain.

A smarter choice might be a hardtop with a reputation for safety and performance – such as the Volvo S60. The S60 has a powerful 300-hp 3.0L turbocharged DOHC I-6 engine that recently made the “Ward’s 10 Best Engines” list for its “delicious mid-range power” and smooth acceleration. Plus, newer S60 models come standard with important vehicle safety features like anti-lock brakes, all-season tires, a tire-pressure monitoring system, and Volvo’s City Safety collision avoidance system that uses optical radar sensors to help you avoid low-speed collisions with people – or in this case, undead people.

Honestly, though, the best car for getting away from looming, blood-thirsty zombies? Any car that runs!
