In an event straight out of the movie “Pay it Forward”, former Steelers secondary coach and new Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator, Ray Horton gave Maurice Matthews, a cafeteria worker at the Steelers facility, a Mercedes-Benz SL500 for $20. The 1999 SL500 is valued at around $12,000 with the 64,000 miles currently on it. That right there is a bargain.
Horton while going to say good bye to the cafeteria workers before he left, ran into Matthews and “borrowed” $20 from him. After Matthews handed over the money Horton said, “Sold for $20” and handed him the keys to the Mercedes-Benz. When Matthews asked Horton if this was real Horton replied, “Hey, you always liked the car, you're a good dude, I know you'll take care of it. It's yours."
The next day Horton had Matthews drive him to the airport and when he met Matthews he gave him all of the paperwork and title to the car. Matthews when asked about receiving the car for free said, "I don't think it has hit me yet. I still pinch myself. I look out the window when I bring it to work and I just go, 'Man, that's mine.'”
