Past Figures, Present Rides: Theodore Roosevelt

CarLocate Team, July 27, 2011, 09:42AM

Today we, the CarLocate Crew introduce a new series in which important figures from history “select” the car that they would drive today if they were alive. The basis of this would be what the figure did during his lifetime and what car would suit them best.  These blogs will be written either as journal entries from the perspective of that historical figure or as an interview with the figure and CarLocate as they describe why they choose the car they did.

Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt and the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

I just went out and bought a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. This is the perfect vehicle for me as it’s the only vehicle as tough as this trust busting, bull-moose leading, rough rider. With the ability to take the windshield out, lower the top, and remove the doors you can go out and see nature as it was meant to be seen. I didn’t go and create all those national parks so people could sit in their air-conditioned cars and listen to their iPod and other techno-gadget-magic and ignore nature.

Also, the Wrangler’s impressive set of off-road performance features makes this a must for those who love the great outdoors and enjoy the freedom of being able to go anywhere. It can literally go anywhere as it possesses 4WD, next generation Dana 44 axels, Off-Road Tires, electronic front sway bar disconnect, electronic stability control, Rock-Trac and Tru-Lock technology to get that extra low end torque necessary for scaling, and it’s all powered by a 3.8L V6 SMPI Engine that produces 202 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 237 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. With a cargo capacity of 46.4 cubic feet behind the second row and 86.8 cubic feet behind the first row, you have plenty of space to store rifles, fishing gear, camping supplies or weapons to fight the Spanish with.

With a 60 month, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty I have assurance that this vehicle will last and that’s important, especially when you do such diverse activities like hunting on the African Savannah, traveling in Yellowstone, or battling Spaniards in Cuba. In fact, this vehicle is so tough I might have to change my catch phrase to “Speak softly and drive a Jeep”.

Background Information:

Theodore Roosevelt is famous for being the 26th President of the United States. While Roosevelt was President, he set a record by appointing 75 federal judges, including three Supreme Court Justices. Roosevelt was also known for his anti-trust legislation, Pure Food and Drug Act along with the Meat Inspection Act of 1906, the creation of the Great White Fleet, and for developing America’s national parks. He created a corollary to the Monroe Doctrine which became known as the Roosevelt Doctrine, this gave the US the right to intervene in crisis in this hemisphere. He became famous for his catchphrase during this period which was “speak softly and carry a big stick.” Being known as a bit of a cowboy, Roosevelt loved hunting and the outdoors. He also earned the distinction of being the only third party candidate to finish as high as second in Presidential voting as he ran under his self-created Progressive Party aka the Bull-Moose Party. In 2001, Roosevelt was awarded posthumously the Medal of Honor by President Clinton for his efforts at San Juan Hill.
