The World’s Best Super Cars: The Past, the Present, and the Future

The saying, “if you have to ask you can’t afford it” applies to these ultra fast “super cars”, but just because you can’t afford one doesn’t mean you can’t look at and admire such a fine piece of machinery. The following cars are Carlocate.com’s top super cars of the past, the present, and the future.

The Past: McLaren F1
Made from 1994 to 1998, this super car remains the worlds fastest naturally aspirated engine.  With a top speed of 240mph the McLaren F1 was miles beyond any other production car at that time. The F1 goes from 0-60mph in an astonishing 3.2 seconds, meaning you have one blazing fast car. The McLaren F1 comes with a V12 engine which pushes out 627 horsepower. At a light 2,513 lbs, the McLaren F1 has weight comparable to most modern supercars. With only 106 of these cars sold at an eye boggling and pocket emptying $970,000 the price increases each year as the value rises with its growing rarity.

The Present: Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
This is the Guinness Book of World Record’s fastest car at an otherworldly 267mph top speed. The Super Sport has an 8L 16-cylinder quad turbocharged engine. Yes, you read that correctly and are not going insane; this car really has 16 cylinders and a turbo charger for every 4 cylinders. That gives this car an insanely high horsepower of 1,200. With a 2.5 second 0-60mph time, it gives the Bugatti Veyron one of the fastest times of any car made. With only 30 (of the Super Sport variant) made this car breaks the bank. With a price tag of $2.7million even Bill Gates would balk.

The Future: Lamborghini Sesto Elemento
Meaning 6th element (which is carbon) the Sesto Elemento body is made entirely of carbon fiber. The liberal use of carbon fiber has put a price tag of $2.9million on the Sesto Elemento. This makes it the world’s most expensive car. At that price you could buy 183 Honda Civics! Civics are not that fast so how about something in the Lamborghini’s speed range, perhaps a Cirrus Vision SF50. What is a Cirrus Vision SF 50? That is the question probably on most reader’s minds right now and the answer is the Cirrus is a jet. Literally a jet airplane and you can buy two of them for the price of one Sesto Elemento. Rumored to hit 200mph+ with ease the Sesto Elemento is powered by a 5.2L V10 engine that supplies 570 hp. A light weight of 2,202 lbs allows the car to accelerate from 0-60mph in 2.5seconds. This car was shown at the 2010 Paris auto show and expected to go into limited production soon.
