Ohio State finally can claim some vindication…at least for one scandal. The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles released a report showing that OSU players and families received no special treatment in the purchase of cars from two Columbus dealers. Of the 25 cars under review only one car was sold for a loss and that car had been held in inventory for over 150 days. Generally, when a car is there for that period of time salesmen are allowed to take whatever measures are necessary to unload the car.

After this report came out OSU dropped its own investigation into the issue and the NCAA will likely take the BMV report at face value. "Today's report from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles supports the sworn statements two Columbus auto dealers provided us that the manner in which they conducted sales with Ohio State student athletes and their families adhered to university and NCAA rules," said Doug Archie, Ohio State Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.

However, the BMV report doesn’t take into account the use of loaner cars by OSU players such as a Dodge Charger that Pryor allegedly used for three weeks while his car was in the shop. Also still under suspicion is the memorabilia sold by Terrelle Pryor and other OSU players that ended the career of Jim Tressel and Pryor at OSU. These allegations are actually more serious than the car issues in regard to NCAA violations and could end up putting penalties on OSU similar to those handed out to USC a year ago. In the end, Ohio State won a small battle in a large war against the NCAA violations they face and still have a long ways to go to remove the cloud of suspicion from their once proud football program. Only time will tell if this war will be won or lost but for right now things are looking up for Ohio State.
