Ever since Cadillac announced it will be making a brand new model, one that is expected to compete with the smaller BMW 3-series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, rumors have been swirling the internet about what it could look like.
Over the weekend, GM’s website showed a behind-the-scenes video of the making of a car. For a mere second or two we were able to catch a glimpse of what many are calling the new Cadillac ATS.
The car being built is clearly a Cadillac, you can tell by the roof-lines and the crease line running down the side. Looking a little more closely, you can tell that the overhangs at the front and rear are noticeably shorter than they would be if the car in question were a CTS model. Using the person working on the car as a reference we can tell that this car is also much more compact than the CTS.
The ATS, as its being called, is going to be built on GM’s new Alpha platform, which has also been closely guarded. It is expected to be a rear-wheel drive, entry level vehicle that will give Mercedes-Benz and BMW a challenge in the luxury sports car market.
Reportedly being offered in coupe, sedan, and convertible models in the US (a station wagon is being talked about for the European market), the ATS will likely be available with 4-cylinder and V6 engines.
One thing we have been told by GM is that they expect the car to have a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged engine that is capable of 380 horsepower.
With specs like these and from what we can see as the “leaked” design, the ATS is definitely going to be a 3-series and C-Class killer.
