One Million Mile Drive

One million miles is a distance that is unfathomable for many people. Just to put how far one million miles is into context, you could drive around the world 40 times and not hit one million miles. You could drive from the center of the earth to the moon and back TWICE! The amount of traveling done to hit one million miles makes Forest Gump look like a casual jogger going from the Pacific to Atlantic for the fun of it.

Now that you have an idea of how far one million miles is…think about this:  an insurance adjustor in Maine named Joe is about to break one million miles driven...in one car. The Carlocate Crew will take a minute break here to let you pick your jaw up from the floor…

Welcome back!  Now onto the story about Joe and his car…

Joe bought his 1990 Honda Accord at around 74,000 miles in 1996. At around 300,000 miles driven Joe decided to take detailed records of the car. He has taken over 661 photos of his odometer and has volumes of notebooks detailing distances of various drives. Due to his job, Joe drives around 62,500 miles a year. That is the same as driving from New York City to Los Angeles and back 11 times each year.

Joe's Accord is currently at 938,000 miles and he expects to hit one million miles in September of this year. When asked when he expects the car to die, Joe said he expected the odometer to turn over and that he’d run another million in the car.
