This weekend’s exciting 24 Hours of Le Mans is over and once again Audi stands on top at victory lane. The Audi R18 TDI was driven by Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer and beat out some fierce competition by Peugeot as their cars placed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the LMP1 category.
Audi had two other cars in the race, but they wrecked fairly early on including one terrifying crash at 120mph into a safety barrier that showered spectators with debris. Fortunately, the driver of the car, Allan McNish, walked away from the accident unscathed, just a little shook up. McNish credited Audi’s superior engineering as the main reason he was able to walk away from that crash. Make sure to check out the video of this crash below.
As for the other categories in the LMP2 class the Greaves Motorsports Zytek Nissan came in first, followed by the Oreca 03 Nissan, and the Lola-Coupe by Honda. In the GTE categories Corvette C6-ZR1s took both the professional and amateur categories. Ferrari and BMW did well as their cars finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Pro category. Porsche and Ford finished 2nd and 3rd in the amateur category.
