Volkswagen is on a mission to grow their global market and exceed both GM and Toyota in worldwide sales. They plan to focus on the U.S. market and are completely redesigning some popular models in hopes to see their sales surge. This plan includes redesigning VW's popular midsize sedan, the Passat.
The all-new 2012 Volkswagen Passat, which will be available later this year, will include a more sculpted exterior and updated interior styling with best-in-class legroom.

Improved fuel efficiency will also be a focus. The redesigned Passat will be available in three drivetrain options: a 2.5L gas engine, a 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel, and a 3.6L VR6 engine. The TDI Clean Diesel engine is expected to deliver 43 miles per gallon on the highway and have a range of almost 800 miles between fill-ups.
All Passat models will come standard with a number of premium features, such as automatic climate control and Bluetooth connectivity. Volkswagen’s Care Free Maintenance Program and Intelligent Crash Response system are also standard. The Care Free program provides free maintenance for 3 years or 36,000 miles. The Intelligent Crash Response system initiates automatic safety protections in case of a collision. The system will shut down the fuel supply, unlock the doors, disconnect the battery from the alternator cable, and turn the hazard lights on.
The price tag on the new Passat has not been announced yet, but it’s sure to be competitive with other sedans in its class.
There’s also no word yet on whether there will be any “Inside the VW Academy” webisodes featuring Bill Hader and the Passat. We'll be waiting.
