The auto industry has let out a huge sigh of relief now that 2010 is over. While automobile sales are not back up to their pre-recession numbers, it has become evident that sales are on the rebound.
Audi of America is a perfect example. In 2010, Audi sales totaled 101,629 vehicles in the United States. This is the first time Audi sales in the U.S. have surpassed the 100,000 mark, crushing Audi’s previous sales record of 93,506 vehicles in 2007. In addition to record-breaking sales, nearly all of Audi’s business measures improved. Earning new market share, Audi now holds 8.6 percent of the U.S. imported luxury car market. This mark reaches well above their previous market share of 7.9 percent in 2009.
Johan de Nysschen, president of Audi of America, commented on Audi’s success in 2010 and the outlook for 2011, “We are confident that the progress Audi has made with the American luxury car consumer only marks the beginning of our opportunities here. Our aim isn’t sales supremacy, but to build the strongest premium brand that can be found in this market. This means improving quality, treating Audi owners as valued stakeholders and working with our dealers to deliver an Audi experience that matches the sophistication of our products.”
Audi is on track to have an even more impressive year in 2011, beginning with winning an EyesOn Design Award, which recognizes the best of automotive design as displayed at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This week, the Audi A6 was recognized as the “Best Production Vehicle” design displayed at the show.
