Chevrolet to Invest in Clean Energy Projects

CarLocate Team, December 6, 2010, 01:55PM

Earlier this year, we told you about Ford’s plan to reduce its carbon footprint. Now, Chevrolet has announced its plan to invest in clean energy sources. Over the next several years, Chevrolet will invest $40 million in various clean energy projects throughout America with a goal to reduce 8 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

GM estimates that its new carbon-reduction goal equates to the emissions in 2011 from people driving the 1.9 million vehicles that Chevrolet expects to sell in the U.S. over the next year.

“This is an opportunity to connect with Chevy customers through clean energy products that directly impact them,” said General Motors CEO Dan Akerson.

Chevrolet plans to invest in:

  • Technology projects like adding smart energy sensors and solar panels to schools and other community-based facilities.
  • Renewable energy sources like wind farms and solar projects.
  • Forestry projects across the U.S.

To follow Chevy’s progress, follow them on Twitter (@ChevyCarbon) or on the Chevrolet Facebook page under the “Cleaner Energy” section.
