Lexus IS Showcases its Precision with a Custom Music Track

During last night’s NLF Network pre-kickoff show, Lexus launched its “Music Track” video spot featuring the 2011 Lexus IS.

In the “Music Track” video, an Ultrasonic Blue Lexus IS weaves its way through a custom-built racetrack featuring 122 percussion instruments arranged to create a precision-driving course. As the IS, driven by professional stunt driver Eddie Braun, navigates the raceway, it trips the drum levers and begins to create it’s own musical beat.

While a highly skilled driver was needed to precisely maneuver the Lexus IS through the course, it took a lot of skill to create the music and course in the first place. Lexus worked with a music production company to compose the music. Then, to translate the notes into a physical track, they worked with a mathematician from a leading university to determine where to place the drums based on calculations of the car’s speed, the beat of the music, and, of course, the amount of space on the track. Finally, a production designer created the system of levers to set off the drums as the wheels of the IS rolled over them.

The "Music Track" video is part of the “Wield Precision” campaign for the Lexus IS. The campaign also will feature outdoor, print, mobile, and online ads, as well as partnerships with popular online sites.

What do you think about this “Music Track” from Lexus? What do you think Lexus should do next to show off the precision handling of the IS?
