Every car has a story. Maybe your car was a gift or maybe it was something you’ve been saving up to buy for years, and now, finally have it. Or maybe your car has been passed down in your family over the years, and even after 200,000 miles, is still going strong. Your car might be the car of your dreams or just a vehicle you use to get from point A to point B. No matter what the car or the person driving it, there is a story behind every car on the road.

As Toyota has become a household name for millions of families nationwide, the popular automotive brand is asking its drivers to share their Toyota stories with the rest of the world. Toyota recently launched a new Facebook campaign in which Toyota fans are asked to share their “auto-biographies” about their Toyota vehicles. Whether you’ve been driving Toyota cars for 30 years or 30 days, Toyota wants to hear your story. (Check out our recent blog post about other ways automakers use social networking sites).

The vast amount of car sales and the huge success of the Camry and Corolla models are telling of the popularity of the Toyota brand. “Two themes that were genuine and resonated were the ‘first-time buyer’-theme for Corolla and the ‘family pass along’-theme with Camry,” said Bob Zeinstra, national manager of advertising and strategic planning for Toyota Motor Sales in the U.S. According to Zeinstra, the campaign is supposed to remind Toyota owners “why they love their cars so much.”

On the Toyota “Auto-Biography” page, drivers who would like to share their story can choose the model and year of their Toyota vehicle, enter the car’s mileage, and add photos and video to go along with their story. There are also eight additional, and more unique, auto-biographies on the Facebook page and on YouTube, which are featured in national TV, print and digital banner advertising, including “The Boller Camry Tree.”
