Kia Motors America has announced that its in-car communications and entertainment system – UVO powered by Microsoft® - has been honored with the 2009-10 Industry Newcomer Award at the annual Telematics Update Awards Conference. The Industry Newcomer Award recognizes the best new product and/or company in telematics.
Kia has worked with Microsoft to design UVO and incorporate an advanced level of voice recognition that enables drivers to use simple, quick voice commands without having to navigate through menus. The intent is to help drivers keep their eyes more safely focused on the road.
Kia’s UVO system features a 4.3” color LCD touch screen that allows drivers hands-free access to access their mobile phone, MP3 player, and Kia audio system. The LCD screen enables drivers to display detailed information on media content, phonebook data, and vehicle information. The screen also doubles as a rear-view camera when the vehicle is put in reverse.
Kia’s UVO system is scheduled to rollout to select models during calendar year 2010, beginning with the all-new 2011 Kia Sorento CUV.
