Chevy Camaro: From New Classic to Best Seller

CarLocate Team, June 8, 2010, 08:53AM

May 2010 marked the first full year of sales for the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro… and what a year it was!

From May 2009 to May 2010, the Camaro posted 99,872 total sales, making it the best-selling sports car in the U.S. for that time period.

“When the new Camaro went on sale, it was predominantly bought by Chevrolet owners, or Camaro enthusiasts who already owned a previous generation,” said John Fitzpatrick, Camaro marketing manager. “Today, about half of 2010 Camaro buyers are new to Chevrolet, some trading in performance cars such as the (Ford) Mustang or Nissan Z to purchase their Camaro.”

The new Camaro has also garnered a host of awards:

  • “Best Buy” from Consumers Digest.
  • 2010 Drivers’ Choice Award for Best Sport Coupe from MotorWeek.
  • 2010 Automotive Excellence Award for Design from Popular Mechanics.
  • 2010 All-Star from Automobile Magazine.
  • Best "Sporty Car" in the AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards.

GM hopes to build on Camaro’s 2010 success in the U.S. by expanding production into international markets soon.

Additionally, the new Camaro convertible will be available for order in late 2010, with production beginning in 2011.
