Debuting at the North American International Auto Show this week is the all-new hybrid from Volkswagen – the Jetta Hybrid.
Powering the all-new model is a Volkswagen’s 1.4-Liter turbocharged gas engine as well as an electric motor that will be powered by a 220-volt, 1.1 kilowatt hour battery. This new hybrid is also the fastest in its class, able to go from 0-60 in just 9 seconds – impressive for a hybrid. Even with this power the Jetta Hybrid delivers an estimated combined fuel economy figure of 45 MPGs. In addition the Jetta Hybrid can be driven in pure electric mode at speeds of up to 44 MPH for up to 1.2 miles.
The Jetta Hybrid will also be the first of its kind to come with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This transmission provides super-fast shifting and at 163-lbs weighs significantly less than a conventional automatic – making this one of the lightest hybrids on the road overall.
The new Jetta Hybrid also has a new look compared to the conventional Jetta including a new front airdam, rear diffuser and integrated spoiler to increase aerodynamics. The Jetta Hybrid also includes 15-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires optimized for low rolling resistance. The new model is also identified by Hybrid signatures on the grille, front fenders, and rear deck.
Pricing for the all-new Jetta Hybrid has not yet been announced, but Volkswagen says it will be competitively priced with other hybrids of its class. You can expect to find the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid in dealerships by the end of 2012.
