Muscle Cars are Making a Comeback

CarLocate Team, October 17, 2012, 10:38AM

You’ve heard the saying history repeats itself and when it comes to muscle cars, that is most certainly the case. After being the ‘hot’ trend in the late 60s and 70s, muscle cars’ popularity declined and some were discontinued altogether. However, we are seeing an increase in demand for the meaty cars as their popularity increases once again.

Typically a fan favorite, the Ford Mustang starts off our muscle car mania list. The 2013 Mustang GT will definitely give you more bang for your buck while giving you an unbelievable amount of options to make it customized to you.  It hauls 420 horsepower from its 5.0-liter V8 engine or 650 from its 5.8-liter V8. Now that’s what we call power! SiriusXM Traffic and SiriusXM Travel Link will keep you up to date with music, traffic alerts and even gas prices. And our favorite feature  is the tinted glass roof option which still blocks out 96 percent of the sun’s UV rays.

Next on our list is the Chevy Camaro. Who doesn’t love seeing a Camaro drive by? There are a few different models available for 2013, but the latest 2SS model caught our eye. This car not only looks good, but also has all the smart, new technology that you need. With a 426 horsepower ,V8  engine, you’ve got all the force you need. This beauty of a car has many options available including: leather seats, a premium nine speaker stereo system, and a rear camera that shows up on the 7 inch touch screen radio. Talk about fancy!

Our final choice is the legendary Chevy Corvette. With its 430 horsepower all-aluminum V8 engine and 190 mph performance, you are in for a whirlwind of fun. And with the 60th Anniversary Design Package that will be available on all 2013 models, you might just have the prettiest little gem on the block. This package includes an Arctic White exterior and a Blue Diamond leather-wrapped interior. Other options include full length racing stripes in Pearl Silver Blue which run the full car length including the interior. Not enough for you? How about these impressive technologies- OnStar, SiriusXM Radio, keyless access with push start button, navigation system and a nine speaker audio system. And that is just to name a few! This one definitely tops the scales in brawn, beauty and brains.

If you decide to purchase any of these attractive beasts, don’t go playing too fast and the furious or you might get a pulled over quicker than you can blink!

BMW i8 Spyder Making First Public Appearance at Beijing Motor Show in Late April

CarLocate Team, April 4, 2012, 08:13AM

Set to make its debut later this month at the Beijing Motor Show, the BMW i8 Spyder makes waves as a gasoline-electric hybrid sports car. This eco-supercar follows the initial concept of the BMW i8 Coupe introduced in 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The BMW i8 Spyder provides an open-top version of the carbon-fiber-intensive i8 line. The aerodynamic exterior and lightweight design create exceptional fuel efficiency. BMW is holding to claims that the combined city/highway fuel economy of the i8 Spyder is an impressive consumption of up to 78 MPG, run almost entirely in electric mode. The turbocharged 1.5-liter, three-cylinder direct-injection engine delivers up to 223 horsepower while being supported by a 131-horsepower electric motor to create a total system output of 354-horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque.

The i8 Spyder is a full hybrid and capable of running on electric power, gasoline, or a combination of both. It also can run in front, rear, or four-wheel drive depending on which power source is used. The BMW i8 Spyder is scheduled to hit showrooms in 2014.

Drive an R8 for a Day with Audi’s #WantAnR8 Campaign

CarLocate Team, March 20, 2012, 03:54PM

Following a record response in 2011, Audi is bringing back its famed #WantAnR8 Twitter campaign where fans can tweet for the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a 2012 Audi R8 for a day.

“Last year, what started as a small swell on Twitter erupted into a nationwide battle to win an R8 for a day. The #WantAnR8 Twitter campaign allowed Audi fans to engage in a fun, exciting way and we’re thrilled to bring it back for a second year,” said Scott Keogh, Chief Marketing Officer, Audi of America.  “The spot headlights the Audi R8 as one of those iconic vehicles that leaves a lasting and memorable impact on the world at large. The spot is exhilarating; fast paced and portrays the R8 as a history-defining vehicle.”

Starting today, the new #WantAnR8 Twitter contest runs from March 20, 2012 to October 29, 2012.   The contest is split up into four entry periods, and two winners will be selected in each round.  The eight winners will have the option to drive the R8 on the track at the Audi Sportscar Experience in Sonoma, CA or have an R8 delivered to their home.
