Subaru “Shares the Love”

CarLocate Team, January 28, 2013, 01:36PM

Subaru kicked off its fifth-annual “Share the Love” event in November 2012. During this annual event, Subaru donates $250 from every car purchase to the new car owner’s choice of five different participating charities.  The event lasted from November 21 through January 2. Over the previous four years, Subaru has donated almost $20 million to charitable organizations, and was expected to donate $5 million this time around.

Subaru asked Facebook fans to vote on which five charities they would partner with.  The partnered charities this year were:

•    Alzheimer’s Association
•    The ASPCA
•    Make-A-Wish
•    Meals on Wheels Association of America
•    USO

Subaru is doing a great job of making a huge impact with their charitable “Share the Love” campaign, and we can’t wait to see what this next year brings!

Auto Manufacturers Give Back in the Wake of Hurricane Sandy

CarLocate Team, November 9, 2012, 12:18PM

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, individuals and organizations alike are coming together to help support relief efforts. We took special notice when we saw just how many car manufacturers are doing the same - and making a big impact while they are at it. Here are just a few examples:

BMW Group, whose North American sales headquarters is in New Jersey, has donated $1 million to the Red Cross in an effort to aid the many who are in need in affected areas. In addition to such a large donation, BMW is encouraging their employees across the nation to volunteer their time and money to relief efforts.

Mazda has contributed $100,000 to the American Red Cross towards Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Additionally, The Mazda Foundation (USA), Inc. Board of Trustees have approved grants of $5,000 each to be donated to two food banks in the impacted area surrounding Mazda’s North East Region office.

Chevrolet got creative and has donated 50 Silverado full-size pickup trucks and express cargo vans to the American Red Cross for use in relief and recovery in the affected areas. Each of these vehicles will come with 300 OnStar Hands-Free Calling Minutes and three months of its directions and connections plan, which includes turn-by-turn navigation services. Additionally, the GM Foundation donated $250,000 to the Red Cross Disaster Responder Program.

Ford Motor Company and its employees have contributed $50,000 to the American Red Cross relief efforts. They are an active partner in the 2012 Red Cross Disaster Program, and have been partners with the Red Cross for more than 30 years!

Hyundai  Motor America is set to donate $500,000 to the Red Cross. Additionally, Hyundai is encouraging their employees, dealer network, and vendor partners to volunteer or provide support in any way they can.

In a time of devastation across our Eastern Seaboard, it is both hopeful and encouraging to see car makers pulling together and giving back to the community in a very big way.

Super Cars

CarLocate Team, November 7, 2012, 12:14PM

Are you a die-hard comic book superhero fan? Are you a car enthusiast? Do you care about starving children in Africa? If you answered yes to any of these questions, keep reading.

DC Entertainment, the creator of beloved superhero comics such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, and Vertigo are teaming up with Kia Motors to bring these Super Heros to life. Get ready for automotive styling to meet comic book art! The partnership will create eight customized vehicles - one for each member of the Justice League:  Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg.

These one-of-a-kind vehicles are designed to benefit “We Can Be Heros” (www.wecanbeheros.com) - a campaign dedicated to fighting hunger in the Horn of Africa. “We Can Be Heros” encourages individuals to bring help and hope to those affected by the hunger crisis in Africa by donating and getting involved. In an effort to raise both funds and awareness towards the cause, Justice-League-inspired vehicles will be auctioned off and “We Can Be Heros” license plates will be for sale, as well as other signage and collateral.

These unique cars will be revealed over the next 10 months at major auto shows and comic cons across the U.S.  The teams at West Coast Customs, RIDES, and Super Street went to work to create these incredible vehicles.

Here are the current pairings:

The Flash-inspired Forte Koup.
Aquaman-inspired 5-door Rio
Green Lantern-inspired Soul
Cyborg-inspired 5-door Forte
Batman-inspired Optima SX Limited

Keep your eye out for these seriously cool cars, and spread the word: “We Can Be Heros”!
