New 2010 Cars – New Suzuki Models – Kizashi Sport Sedan

CarLocate Team, January 28, 2010, 02:43PM

The 2010 Suzuki Kizashi (pronounced “Kee-Zah-Shee”) started hitting dealership showrooms in December 2009. It is the automaker’s first all-wheel drive (AWD) sport sedan, designed to compete with the Ford Fusion, Kia Optima, Hyundai Sonata, and others in that class.

The Kizashi comes in four trim levels and ranges in base price from $18,999 for the entry-level Kizashi S with front-wheel drive (FWD) manual transmission to $26,749 for the Kizashi SLS with an AWD continuously variable transmission.

To help set this sport sedan apart from similar cars, Suzuki has loaded the Kizashi with safety features that garnered it 5-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for its performance in frontal and side-impact crash tests. (For more on these tests, visit http://www.safercar.gov/.)

Standard safety features on the Kizashi include eight airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, daytime running lights, four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock brake system (ABS), and Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) on front-wheel drive models. Intelligent Vehicle Stability Program is available on AWD models.

The Kizashi features a sporty, yet sleek cockpit and a number of interior options you'd expect in a sports sedan, including enhanced dashboard driver's center, dual-zone climate control, and leather-wrapped steering wheel complete with cruise and audio controls.

All Kizashi trim levels feature a 2.4-liter, inline-four engine. Manual and automatic transmission options are available for all trim levels, except the SE that’s available only as an automatic. The estimated miles per gallon is 23 city and 31 highway (based on the Kizashi S trim level).

In sum, if you’re looking for a five-passenger sedan that balances sportiness with safety consciousness and decent gas mileage, the 2010 Suzuki Kizashi is definitely a car you’ll want to check out.

New Group Wants States to Say TTYL to Distracted Driving

CarLocate Team, January 27, 2010, 04:38PM

According to a recent consumer survey, people are texting EVERYWHERE these days...

  • 41 percent reported texting while skiing, horseback riding, or biking.
  • 16 percent of people admitted texting at a funeral.
  • 11 percent said they texted during a romantic interlude (We have to ask, “Really?”).

But, it's the 77 percent of people who say they text while driving a car that is alarming public policy officials.

That’s part of why a new non-profit group called FocusDriven has been formed to encourage states to pass laws to say TTYL (that’s short for “talk to you later” for the non-texters out there) to distracted driving, particularly making phone calls or text messaging on a mobile device while driving. The group has been established with the support of the U.S. Transportation Department, the independent National Safety Council, and safety advocates; it is modeled after Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

According to USA Today, there are 19 states that already prohibit text messaging while driving and 23 states are contemplating legislation. Seven states prohibit cell phone use entirely while driving. FocusDriven supports a nationwide ban.

Now, you may be asking “why?” – especially if you are one of the three out of four people in the U.S. who have sent a text message or mobile e-mail from behind the wheel of your car. Here are some stats FocusDriven uses to back their case:

  • 636,000 car crashes per year can be attributed to distracted driving, resulting in
  • 330,000 injuries, with 12,000 of those being serious in nature, and
  • 2,600 deaths.

Those statistics help FocusDriven make a compelling argument for a nationwide ban on using cell phones while driving.

Note: While CarLocate.com does not specifically endorse this group, we support efforts that focus on making the roadways safer for all motorists.
